To begin your portfolio...
- Open Microsoft Front Page by double clicking on
the Front Page icon on your desk top.
- Click on File (upper left corner). Click on
Open Web. Type your site URL (see
below) in the Web name text box.
- Now on the left you should see a folder list that contains two
folders:
"_private"
"images"
- On the very far left is another bar called the Views bar.
Click the Navigation button or make sure you are in the
Navigation view.
- Underneath the File menu button is a white paper button.
Click this button, not the arrow next to it. A homepage icon should
appear in the main window.
- Double click the Homepage (note that FrontPage automatically
created a file in the Folder List).
You are now ready to begin designing your homepage.
PAGE SETUP
For now, we will all follow the same steps. You will have time
later to personalize your page.
Apply Shared Borders
- Click on Format on the tool bar at the top.
- Click on Shared Borders
- If it is not present click the double down arrows at the bottom of
the menu.
- Check the boxes beside Top, Bottom and All Pages
- Click OK
Insert a Page Banner
- Put the cursor in the top border
- Click on Insert on the top tool bar
- Click on Page Banner
- The text for the Page Banner is controlled by the Navigation
view
- To edit the text, select Navigation view
- Single click the page you are working on
- Either single click again and wait 2 seconds or press the 'F2' key
on the keyboard
- Type in what you would like to appear on the Page Banner
Insert contact information
- In the bottom border, type in a message to contact or email
you.
- Create a hyperlink:
- Highlight your contact message
- Right click on the highlighted text
- At the bottom of the window, click on Hyperlink
- Click the E-mail Address button in the bottom left corner.
- Type your email address in the opening
- Click on OK.
Apply a Theme
- Click on Format. Click on Theme. Choose a
theme for your web site. Click on All Pages. Click
on OK. Your web page will now have a background and
graphic banner.
BODY SETUP
Make sure your cursor is in the Body of the page and not in any
of the Shared Borders.
Tables are essential to web page design. You must place all text
and graphics in tables. The tables do not need to be shown on the
web, but serve as place holders for information.
Click on Table on the top tool bar. Click on or hover over Insert.
Click Table. Decide how you want to place the required information on your page.
Create a table with rows and columns that will hold the information.

Web Site Structure
When your homepage is complete, you are ready to set up the structure
for your web site and create new pages.
You are now working in the Folder List column.
- Right click on the very top folder with the name of your web site.
- Click on or hover over New.
- Click on Folder.
- Rename the folder to an element of your
portfolio.
- Educational Technology would be a good place
to begin.
- Click the white page icon under the File menu button.
- This should create a new page.
- Click on File.
- Click on Save As.
- Name the
file index.htm.
- Change the Page Title to Technology Projects.
- SAVE under Educational
Technology folder.
Add the new page to the Navigation view
- Click on Navigation view
- Single click and hold the page
- Drag the icon underneath the homepage
- A dotted line should appear telling you where it will attach the page
- Let go of the file
Edit your Education Technology front page
- Click on Page view.
- Create an introduction and description for your
technology projects.
- Make a table to hold hyperlinks to each
of your projects.
You will follow this procedure to create folders and files for each
part of your portfolio.
