FUNCTIONS OF LANGUAGE

Instrumental - to satisfy needs. " I want…"

Regulatory - to control behavior of others. "Go away."

Interactional - social activities or for the purpose of getting along with others. "Let's play together."

Personal - express private opinions or to allow a child to tell about self. "I want to be a pilot."

Imaginative - creating a fantasy or make-believe world. "Once upon a time…."

Heuristic - seek information and ask questions. "Why do ….?"

Informative - inform others. "I've got something to tell you."
